Top 8 things to consider regarding Wedding Florals…
1. Factor your venue into your floral choice -Your wedding venue, as well as your table configuration, should greatly influence your choice of wedding flowers. Talk these through with your florist so you can have a design that blends well.
Planner Tip: When considering table decor, mixing up high & low centerpieces adds dimension to your overall look. If your budget allows for pinspots, this can add a gorgeous touch to displaying your centerpieces and gives the room a very romantic vibe. The venue lighting should be dimmed & the pinspots will highlight your centerpieces as the focal point.
Also, some venues do not allow bold colored florals to be tossed or used as aisle decor because the petals stain the flooring. Your planner will factor these important details during the planning process.
2. Get florist recommendations from others -You want a RELIABLE florist, period. Get recommendations from other couples, check online reviews & make sure to ask your planner for referrals.
3. Pictures are worth way more than words -Once you’ve found a florist you want to schedule a consultation. Make sure to bring your Pinterest board, a photograph of your wedding gown, & any other inspo that will help your florist visualize your style & choice better.
4. Flowers make up a significant part of your wedding budget -Flowers and décor will take up about 10% of most wedding budgets. Be prepared with your set budget at the start of the consultation.
Planner Tip: Encorporating greenery into your overall look will be more cost effective if you are trying to stay on a budget.
5. Some flowers are seasonal but…
-Many flowers are seasonal and may be out when you have to wed. Fortunately, some have look-alikes that will fit in as worthy replacements.
Planning Tip: Many brides love Peonies which can be a costly flower, especially if it’s not in season. White garden roses are a great substitute!
6. Recycle Your Blooms -Your "I dos" will probably last less than an hour, so it's a shame to not enjoy your flowers for longer. Aisle arrangements can flank the cake table, bridesmaid bouquets can add color to the escort card display and an archway can make for a memorable exit. Your bridal bouquet can be placed at the sweetheart table.
Planning Tip: Take advantage of candles. Adding candles to your floral & table arrangements will help create the perfect ambiance. If you are providing your own candles, make sure they have a burn life is long enough to cover your reception. Some venues have a strict no open flame policy. If that’s the case, have the candles enclosed in a glass vase or casing.
7. Coordinate the logistics -Logistics involved like timing the delivery with your photographer’s arrival, floral transfers from ceremony to reception, placing the flowers in vases, and ensuring they are kept away from sunlight so they don’t wilt too quickly are a few things to consider. Your planner will allocate specific times on your wedding timeline.
Planner Tip: If you have hydrangeas, make sure they are kept in water prior to photos and after to stay fresh! These flowers require lots of water 🌸
8. Get a proposal from your florist -Your meetings with the florist should also include getting a proposal. Details of important things like the exact list of your wedding flowers, personal flowers, ceremony & reception florals & breakdown of total costs should be included.
Planning Tip: Having an accurate guest count helps determine the number of tables you will need. For guest seating you can have rounds, kings tables or a mix and match of the two! 72” rounds seat 10 per table and 60” rounds seat 8 per table.
